elf1  > Nature > Yard Deities, Flowers, Birds, and Like That 2009 May 16
I had other plans for today, but I looked out my bedroom window and the hay baling looked so intriguing... must...take...photos...Plus maybe I wanted to prove to myself that I could still take SOME photos with my crappy point and shoot (since my "real" camera and all its lenses were just stolen & don't know when I'll be able to get more). So I wandered around the yard, capturing some of its spring/summer color and many of its denizens.

elf1 > Glanced out my bedroom window and saw them baling the winter crop. Woohoo! Dashed outside in my slippers with my baby camera.
elf1 > Don't you wish you had an 800-acre field in which to park your truck? Someday this will be a different kind of parkland.
elf1 > For those who prefer to get up close and personal with their hay bales.
elf1 > There must be a poem about hay bales somewhere. ...Wow, OK, you can take your pick from among many hay poems of the late 20th century!
elf1 > REALLY up close and personal with your bales.
elf1 > Or you can watch the mower/baler grind-grind its way through the grasses. Listen to THAT all day from dawn till dusk!
elf1 > Three years ago a mourning dove raised about 5 litters on my plant shelf. Haven't seen them since--until this week. This is about 7 feet up. Hard to see from my watering stance on the ground.
elf1 > Fortunately I have a handy-dandy hot tub that's good for climbing on, because it's certainly not used for hot tubbing.
elf1 > And there's a second nest at the other end! See it? No? I found it while watering plants when the babies started flapping. I hope I haven't soaked their nest and made them sick. On the other hand, they must have been there when I watered last week.
