elf1  > Vacation > Havasu Falls Grand Canyon May 2008 > Day 6 Grand Canyon, Flowers, and Snow
On Thursday, Day 6, we crawled from our toasty sleeping bags into freezing air. It hailed a bit at breakfast. A 40% chance of thundershowers was predicted. After a futile foray to try to find another battery for my camera, we strolled to the shuttle stop in the hail/snow and started our tour of the rim. Delightfully, the sun came out and we strolled the rim trail in pleasant weather. But by lunchtime, freezing winds and hail/snow had driven everyone back into the shuttle buses. With white-out conditions in the canyon, we bought a hot lunch indoors and then went to Tusayan to watch the IMAX Grand Canyon film.

elf1 > Hot water cooks for breakfast. (We were big on simple meals.) At Mather Campground, at Grand Canyon Village.
elf1 > Here we are again--looking a little colder than when we went to Havasu Falls.
elf1 > The trail through Mather Campground to the showers, shuttle stop, Market Plaza, and beyond was a nice little hike, maybe 1/4 mile from our tent to the road. We walked it many times.
elf1 > Predicted high for today, 43; low: 34. 40% chance of thundershowers. Notice that there's no mention of hail or snow.
elf1 > The General Store in Grand Canyon Village is huge. But they didn't have a replacement battery for my SLR camera, which had already almost used up 2 batteries. (No elec hookups in the campsites.)
elf1 > So we drove out of the park to Tusayan (TOO se yon), the main village about 5 miles outside the park. They didn't have a battery, either. Coming back in through the South Entrance Station, there were already lines, but we got to use the express lane.
elf1 > Back at camp, we started walking to catch the shuttle bus, and then it started hailing/snowing. Our sentences were sprinkled with "I can't believe this!"
elf1 > You can really see it come down now. Linda practices looking not cold.
elf1 > Many of the paths in the Village area were broad, paved trails through the woods.
