elf1  > Vacation > Havasu Falls Grand Canyon May 2008 > Day 3 Hike from Hualapai Hilltop to Supai
We left Seligman around 6:30, arrived at Hualapai Hilltop around 8:30, and started our descent. Arrived in the village of Supai midafternoon and kicked back in the heat. Lots of rocks and cliffs and sky and trail photos, plus flowers, dogs, horses, mules and even antelope.

elf1 > Another view of the Prince's Plume (Stanleya Pinnata).
elf1 > Some of the trail switchbacks were wide, shallow switchbacks; others were steep and frequent.
elf1 > About halfway down the switchback part of the trail, there was this wall. And something dead behind it that you could smell distinctly for many yards in both directions. I glanced briefly behind the wall and saw a large maybe femur. I didn't look any further. The wall is really probably there to help prevent trail erosion; the trail was well-maintained and we encountered a couple of crews working on it even in this heat.
elf1 > Here's Linda on yet another switchback with the cliff in the background. From here it looks much worse than it actually felt on the trail.
elf1 > Same place on the trail, but different view with the camera. I kept trying to show the depth of the canyon, but it doesn't show up well on camera.
elf1 > The mule trains just whipped by on the switchbacks.
elf1 > As I said, both mules and horses served as pack animals.
elf1 > Sometimes there'd be a horse or mule on a lead or roped together, but not mostly. I wondered whether maybe those were the younger ones still learning their jobs.
elf1 > We're finally nearing the end of the really steep mile and a half, and now we'll be descending another 900 feet but gradually over 6 and a half more miles along canyon bottoms.
