elf1  > Hiking > Blossom Hill Area Hike To Mall May 10 2008
After the other week, where the Sierra Club went for a really brisk "hike" of 5 miles, all on paved walkways in the suburbs of Palo Alto, with some folks snapping photos left and right, I thought--hey--let's take a new view of my own neighborhood as a Hiking Destination! But when? Saturday morning I agreed to meet my sister and bro-in-law at the mall to see Iron Man. I always drive because it's a LONG way over there--gosh, at least 5 minutes, or maybe less! But then, Saturday was gorgeous, and I realized that hiking 1.8 miles each way to the mall was a whole lot less walking than I've been doing Wednesdays with the Sierra Club. So, what the heck! Have camera, will hike. So off I went. (My photographic goal today was: No cropping or lighting fixes or realignment required in Photoshop after I got home. This was all done with my cheapie point-and-click digital camera. I did end up cropping two or three but mostly it helps if you actually pay attention to what you're doing!)

elf1 > Could this be Evidence for some of that pesky graffiti? Right outside the high school? What could it mean?
elf1 > They have electronic speed limit signs that show you how fast you're going in a 25 MPH school zone, with the school sitting right there (to the left of this photo) to remind you. This one is doing 36.
elf1 > Hey, isn't this cool, we look more like Los Angeles every day, even in my own very neighborhood!
elf1 > Mr. Ground Squirrel doesn't care that he lives in the suburbs instead of some ugly dusty field somewhere. In fact, he's got a great deal: His entryway is that Soviet industrial block-concrete look that I've seen in so many office buildings around here. He's the envy of all his neighbors. Oh--wait--he doesn't have any neighbors. Wonder where he finds a date?
elf1 > I like the juxtaposition (good word, note to self, use more) of the Indian name (Ohlone) with the good English name Chynoweth. Cross-cultural flower beds are good. Plus I like the flags because they are my Favorite Colors.
elf1 > This shopping cart apparently didn't read the sign.
elf1 > Well, what do ya know, down the street there's just another shopping cart. This must be shopping-cart city. Who leaves these things here? There are no doors, no parking lots, no hidey holes for homeless. Why here? Why now?
elf1 > However, I am carrying this REALLY HEAVY PURSE so a shopping cart who wants to go back to Sears, which is at the mall where I am headed, is a lucky find. I shall avail myself of its bounty.
elf1 > The light rail zips past just ahead of me. There is no light rail directly from my house to the mall. I could walk most of a mile, get on the light rail right near Mr. Ground Squirrel's house, go to the next stop, get off and cross the street, and I'd be at the mall. For a mere $1.75. Or I could walk.
