elf1  > Hiking > Blossom Hill Area Hike To Mall May 10 2008
After the other week, where the Sierra Club went for a really brisk "hike" of 5 miles, all on paved walkways in the suburbs of Palo Alto, with some folks snapping photos left and right, I thought--hey--let's take a new view of my own neighborhood as a Hiking Destination! But when? Saturday morning I agreed to meet my sister and bro-in-law at the mall to see Iron Man. I always drive because it's a LONG way over there--gosh, at least 5 minutes, or maybe less! But then, Saturday was gorgeous, and I realized that hiking 1.8 miles each way to the mall was a whole lot less walking than I've been doing Wednesdays with the Sierra Club. So, what the heck! Have camera, will hike. So off I went. (My photographic goal today was: No cropping or lighting fixes or realignment required in Photoshop after I got home. This was all done with my cheapie point-and-click digital camera. I did end up cropping two or three but mostly it helps if you actually pay attention to what you're doing!)

elf1 > Deep purple iris.
elf1 > Admire the delicate purple veining come off the edges of this iris. Wow.
elf1 > These iris were so deep purple that they looked almost black. In real life. Photo life is sometimes different.
elf1 > Another gorgeous iris. I have iris in my yard. Some of them bloom sometimes, and sometimes even the stalks stay intact long enough to bloom and don't get broken off by misthrown canine toys.
elf1 > Many lovely flowers.
elf1 > There's a high school about 3/4 of a mile away. With many large lovely lawns that look like you could maybe run your dogs and have a good frisbee game. Except for pesky signs like this. At least they don't say "NO DOGS." They just conveniently give you the city ordinance numbers in case you want to look up what they're going to accuse you of, if you try doing whatever it is that the ordinance prohibits. Or maybe allows. Who knows? Maybe 7.08.200 REQUIRES that your animals be running at large.
elf1 > One of the best-selling video games of all times. You press the button, and sure enough, a little walking guy lights up! Repeat! Lots of fun! Even the drivers stop to watch it and yell encouragement!
elf1 > Makes me sad. :-(
elf1 > The nifty grassy high school lawn with students doing track and fieldy sorts of things. Maybe there'll be a frisbee dog at halftime. But maybe not, since I didn't bring my dog or my frisbee. Next time. Meanwhile, they can enjoy having a freeway flyway zoom right past them in the background.
